The Cloverdale Red Spurs Pee Wee AA team received a unique and very special opportunity in the past weekends John Main tournament: A chance to play the Fu-Yuan Baseball Academy club from Taiwan on the main diamond on Saturday night. In front of hundreds of very loud, flag waving, drum beating and cheering fans, the Red Spurs squared off against Taiwan in a game that our boys will remember for a very long time. Cloverdale ace Keanan Leclerc got the call for Red Spurs on the mound, squaring off against lefty Lin I-Ting from Fu-Yuan Academy. Both pitchers brought their A game, and hits and scoring opportunities were few and far between. A miscue at first base cost the Spurs a run early, and the game remained 1-0 until the 4th inning. Two double plays by the Spurs in back to back innings kept the score close until the 5th inning, when Taiwanese slugger Wen-Ting Wang deposited a Leclerc fastball some 300 feet over the wall in dead center field, scoring an additional 2 runs. Fu-Yuan brought in their closer late in the game, and the Spurs were unable to make any headway against his 80 plus mile an hour fastball. The final score of 3-0  favored the team from Taiwan on a memorable evening for every one involved. The two teams exchanged gifts, pins and photos and finished the evening with both teams performing the home plate "Baseball Dance" for the fans.
